Fiore’s Sword in One Hand – The Challenges of Interpreting Medieval Manuscripts

We all have made and corrected mistakes during the complicated and challenging process of interpreting ancient manuscripts, myself included. I want to use this presentation to generate more openness and healthy dialogue around what factors should be considered and what tests should be applied to our work. I am using my interpretation of Fiore’s sword in one hand, which I have significantly altered more than four times, as a case-in-point for consideration of the many factors involved, including translation of an ancient foreign language, being true to the text and illustrations, strict application of martial principles and stress testing. While everyone will benefit from the discussion, I especially invite all students and instructors of Fiore’s work to attend and add to the experience.
