Most martial artists believe that using a Tactical Pen is intuitive and obvious; yet in reality, the tactical pen is neither a Kubotan nor a yawara stick, as the “experts” propose in combat and survivalists magazines. While it’s true that the pen can function as such, believing that’s all it is can be very limiting. A nuanced understanding of the Tactical Pen as a practical and legal implement of personal protection makes it a viable option for anyone who wants to enhance their current skill level without relying on actual weapons or committing to long-term training. We will look at pen attributes and selection criteria, and train in grips, guards, footwork, drills, and applications against attackers.
Required Equipment: A sturdy pen, Tactical or otherwise. (No markers; Sharpies, etc.)
