Albert Toberer runs Blackfriar’s School of Fence in San Luis Obispo, California. He entered the world of swashbuckling in the mid-90s, performing in battle pageants at small Renaissance faires throughout California with St. Kennoch’s guild. Wanting to gain a deeper understanding of knightly combat, Albert and other interested friends began working from the growing number of fighting manuals that came into circulation in the late 90s. Albert still strives to distill all he can from each fight manual and seeks out knowledge by travelling and learning from contemporary instructors. His goal is to make HEMA accessible to anyone who walks through the door wanting to learn.
