Open Steel Longsword is for everyone ready to take on the tournament scene! Whether it will be your 1st tournament or your 50th, Open Steel is the place for you to earn that tournament medal amongst fighters from all HEMA traditions and skill levels. It is recommended that you be well practiced in intensive full gear sparring at your local club before participating in tournament. Consult your Head Instructor if you are unsure about your ability to participate.

Advanced Longsword

-Maximum 32 participants-

Advanced Longsword is the place for you if Open Steel just isn’t getting the blood pumping any more. Advanced features top-ranked fighters employing all their technical skills. If you’ve managed to medal in other large Open Steel tournaments, it’s time for you to step it up and fence some of the best in the country (and maybe other countries!).

Women’s Longsword

-Maximum 20 participants-

Tournament for all women and female identifying individuals who are ready to fence! Women’s tournaments are known as a bastion of technical skill and strategic prowess. Come out and show the world your bad-assery!

2020 HEMA Longsword Rules

Sword and Buckler

-Maximum 40 participants-

The tradition of the arming sword and buckler continues this year at CombatCon. Great for fencers of all levels, who may or may not have mastered the ability to fully utilize an off-hand dagger, but still wish to try a sword-and-off-hand style. Good news: you can score with the buckler! Equipment will not be provided, so check the rules for acceptable weapon parameters.

2020 Sword and Buckler Rules

-Maximum 46 participants-

The King of the dueling weapons, the rapier.  This event will allow you to demonstrate your advance technical skill, strategy, and athleticism in the one on one duel.  This year you may decide to fight with the rapier however you would like, either single rapier, with a dagger, or with a buckler.

2020 Rapier Rules

Pub Style Singlestick

-Maximum 64 participants-

This isn’t your grandpa’s singlestick tournaments. Actually, it might be. This year the singlestick tournament will be like the singlesticks of yore.  Mono e mono. No prancing around with fancy footwork this year.  This year the singlestick event will reflect the style of single stick that was often practiced in pubs or at county fairs throughout the British Isles with stationary feet and only the head being target.  If you enjoy hitting people in the head and not getting hit yourself, this event is for you

-Maximum 46 participants-

If you haven’t had enough of the hack-and-slash weapons, consider entering the Saber Tournament! Based in classical military tradition, fencers of all levels are welcome. Check the rules for weapon parameters.

2020 Saber Tournament Rules

Armor Tournament

This is going to be a full armored event with spears! The final rules are being developed by Michael Woodford with lots of input from leading armored events. Stay tuned for more info!

Open Cutting

– Maximum Participants 40-

For competitors who have participated in cutting competitions before. You may not have won an intermediate cutting tournament or medal in a major competition.

Advanced Cutting

-Maximum Participants 20-

This is for those that have placed in other cutting competitions before and are looking for a challenge. There will be many surprises in store for you from the mind of Phil Martin.
